BOGORIA: 247 km from Nairobi.

50 kilometres away from her sister in Baringo, lies Lake Bogoria, which is approximately 30 square kilometres and at an altitude of 990m. The Siracha escarpment [1,600m] dominates the East Side of the lake and its reflection stands out very well in the Lakes waters. Bogoria is home to the Lesser Flamingo and they are ever so busy wading in the shallow waters of the lake, eating the algae.

The rocks and soil around the lake are made of alkaline lava and the southern bay is an old crater. There is evidence of volcanic activity in this area, the most spectacular being hot springs and steam jets on the western shore of the lake. This makes an ideal spot for a picnic lunch as you see the steam jets, lake and the Siracha escarpment.

The biggest geyser shoots spumes of hot spray to a height of 5 meters. The Greater Kudu can also be seen in this Park. The male can weigh more than 300kgs for a height of 1.5m. Their horns spiralled are about 120cm long! Buffalo, Dik – Dik, Zebra, Impala, Baboons and Vervet monkeys can also be seen in the park.
