MAASAI MARA: 280 km from Nairobi. It is one of the most renowned game reserves in East Africa, popularly known as "The Jewel of Africa." This destination is a wildlife photographer's haven, as you will never miss out on capturing a dramatic moment which you will always be an all time favorite story to share with your friends.
It is famous for its annual migration of the Wildebeest from Tanzania, crossing the Mara River and into the Maasai Mara – a wildlife spectacle that is arguably the most photographed in the world. Each year, during the migration, 1.5 million Wildebeest accompanied by 200000 Zebra, 20,000 Eland and more than 500,000 Gazelles do the "Great Trek" from Ngorongoro to Serengeti and right down to the Maasai Mara. Also in the Game Reserve are: Giraffes, Warthogs, Hippos, Crocodiles, Impalas and numerous species of bird especially the Secretary bird and not to mention the Vultures that scavenge on the carcasses of Wildebeest in the Mara River. The Big 5 can also be seen, these are the Lion, Elephant, Leopard, Buffalo and Rhino. Cheetah [the fastest mammal on land], Hyena, Silver backed and Grey backed Jackals are plenty as well.
