MERU: 390 km from Nairobi.

Meru National Park lies on the North Eastern side of Mount Kenya.  The abundance of rainfall around the area and numerous permanent streams that flow down from Mt. Kenya have resulted in dense forest, swamp and tall grass. The campsite is located next to the Bwatherongo River, one of the nine rivers flowing through the National Park.

In the year 2002, 56 Elephants were translocated from the Laikipia plains to this National park; making it the biggest elephant translocation ever to be carried out. Recently, 9 Rhinos were translocated from Nakuru National Park to Meru in a bid to restock the Rhino population within the Park. Kudus, Hippos and Lions are some of the other animals that can be seen in the Park.

This destination is one of the "off the beaten tracks" destinations in Kenya and it is worth a visit!
